About

Off-Ice Lesson Structure

Dynamic Warm-Up
Our sessions begin with a structured dynamic warm-up designed to elevate heart rate, increase tissue temperature, and activate the neuromuscular system. This prepares athletes for higher-intensity movements, improves mobility, and reduces injury risk.

SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness)
SAQ training develops linear speed, acceleration, deceleration, and change of direction—key components of hockey performance. Off-ice SAQ work emphasizes fast-twitch (Type II) muscle development, enabling athletes to generate quicker first steps, gain separation from defenders, and increase shot power through improved force production.

Strength Training
Strength work challenges athletes through movement patterns that transfer directly to on-ice performance. The objective is not to rush through repetitions but to enhance force capacity, resilience, and neuromuscular efficiency. Strength training supports improvements in acceleration and deceleration mechanics, posture and balance, bone density, and overall structural durability.

Stability Training
Stability training introduces balance and proprioceptive demands to traditional strength-based movements. This enhances joint control, body awareness, and coordination across multiple planes of motion. By targeting stabilizing musculature, athletes build a foundation that supports efficient movement, injury prevention, and long-term athletic development.

On-Ice Lesson Structure

Public Session: lessons begin with warmup skating focusing on getting long powerful strides and engaging students by challenging their inside and outside edge control. All lessons are tailored to each individual skater based on their strengths and weaknesses. Lessons on the public session are a great place to improve:

-Starting mechanics

-Stopping Mechanics

-Glide Turn

-Punch Turn

-Backwards Skating

-Crossovers

Hockey Teaching Session (HTS): lessons begin with power skating focused on controlling the edges and getting the most out of each stride. After skating the pucks come out to work on a variety of skills including:

-Shooting

-Puck Control & Protection

-Creating Space

-Challenging Defenders

-Passing

-Backhand & Forehand
